Non-renewable resources are natural substances that cannot be replenished at the rate at which they are consumed. The energy produced by natural resources is renewable and can be replenished in the course of a human life. A non-renewable resource is a substance that can be used as long as it is the substance itself that replaces itself with the resource.

Gas is a natural resource. It occurs without human intervention when plant and animal matter are able to decay under conditions of extreme heat and pressure for millions of years.
