During its lifetime, the red maple, also known as the sugar maple, can grow to a height of 100 feet. However, smaller varieties, such as Japanese maples, can reach up to 8 feet. In the United States, the Japanese maple is considered a small tree, usually 5 to 25 feet (1.5-7.5 m) tall. Sugar maple trees are the longest-lived maples, and they can reach ages of 400 years. Next are the red maples trees, which have a maximum lifespan of about 300 years. The youngest are silver maples, which live for about a century. Maples live longer in old forests than in new ones. As you know, these are deciduous trees and tend to be popular because of their ability to provide a lot of shade over their lifetime. The typical lifespan of some varieties of maple, such as red maple, is 100-150 years with good care. From what we have found, maples typically live around 100 years and can live up to 400 years under ideal conditions.
